Excessive noise exposures
may lead to hearing loss.
- Hearing impairment has been demonstrated in younger
farmers in their twenties as well as older farmers.
- Pattern of hearing loss.
- The most noise-sensitize hearing frequencies, 4000 to
7000 Hz, are initially affected. The loss extends to higher and lower hearing frequencies
with continued exposure.
- Hearing loss is usually greater in the left ear.
- Farmers are commonly exposed to noise levels greater
than 90 dB. (Levels above 85 dB are generally considered potentially injurious.)
