Excessive noise exposures may lead to hearing loss.
  1. Hearing impairment has been demonstrated in younger farmers in their twenties as well as older farmers.
  2. Pattern of hearing loss.
    1. The most noise-sensitize hearing frequencies, 4000 to 7000 Hz, are initially affected. The loss extends to higher and lower hearing frequencies with continued exposure.
    2. Hearing loss is usually greater in the left ear.
  3. Farmers are commonly exposed to noise levels greater than 90 dB. (Levels above 85 dB are generally considered potentially injurious.)
