Rural Family Medicine's Mission

Our purpose is to encourage family physicians to take up the challenges and expereince the joys of rural living and remain in rural practice throughout their careers.  We believe that if we adequately prepare physicans for rural lifestyles, rural practice and the continually changing rural environment, family physicians are more likely to choose rural, build a rewarding practice and stay in rural practice for a lifetime.  We also believe that by identifying rural health issues and learning to understand rural communities, public and private funding sources will be inclined to invest more resources in rural training programs and in schools of medicine that devote more curriculum time in rural healthcare.
